What a nightmare!

My trip home, what should have been the best day in over a year and a half, turned into a nightmare somewhere close to Hell.

Everything started out great. My last day working in the Socialist Republic of Kalifornia went smooth, there was lots of cake and goodbye wishes. I headed home straight from work, but 7 hours into my journey disaster struck.

The plan was to decide if I was going to stop in Phoenix or continue home when I got there, but about an hour and a half outside of Phoenix I decided to pull into a rest area for a power nap. I wasn’t even that tired, I just thought I’d be extra cautious. Well, I rested for a few minutes but it was getting pretty hot, so I decided to turn the car back on for some AC, then … it wouldn’t start. Crap!

It sounded like the fuel pump, and last week my car had the same problem for about half an hour, so I thought I’d just let it rest and see if it would start … I tried to nap while I had a chance, then try to start it again. I did this for over 3 hours, then called for a tow.  🙁

So, at 3:30AM (after a $200 tow bill) I find my self in Salome, AZ. At least it had cooled down to 82 degrees. The motel office was closed, so I sat in my car and slept off and on from about 4:00 until 7:00, then I went to the cafe to get a little breakfast (And use the pod).

After an omelet with Sausage, Cheese and Jalapeños, I made my way back to the auto repair place to wait for them to open. Kudos to the cook, she wasn’t afraid to put in enough Jalapeños!

The guys there were very nice and helpful. We tried to find a fuel pump in all of the dinky little towns around to no avail. Luckily the owner of the shop’s wife was in Phoenix picking up parts, so she was able to pick up the part (I hope – at my last check, she wasn’t back yet) but we were not sure if she would be back in time to get the car fixed by the end of the day.

So, I’ve been able to get maybe 2 hours of sleep, and if she got back in time I needed to be rested enough to drive (I’ve still got about 8+ hours to go). I decided to see if the motel had a room, so I could try to take a nap. They had one … So here’s the tour

Is it an Oasis in the desert? Let’s see.

Before I show you the other amenities, I  thought I’d answer a couple questions you are obviously asking. Yes – the AC works. Not great, but ok. I was a little sweaty when I woke up from my nap, but it was hot out:

I’m sure you are wondering about the bed. Well – it’s pretty firm which I like, but after I saw a hair on a pillow, I decided to sleep on top, with what appears to be a clean towel under my head.

There is so much to see around town (luckily the motel is only about a block and a half from the auto repair place). Actually the auto repair place is either the beginning of downtown or it’s right next to downtown, depending on how you look at it. So, this is pretty much all of downtown:

They have a historical marker:

Anyway, now I’m blogging, watching Criminal Minds (Season 7) and praying I get out of here by 9-9:30 tomorrow. One last nightmare … Spending HOURS trying to format this post. GRRRRRRRR!!!
