  1. Tiffani says:

you need to pick one name for yourself from these options:

    ojiichan
    jiichan
    jiji
    kusojiji

    then you will be official

    p.s. ojii is a no-go

  2. Tiffani says:

oh, and by the way, why aren’t you typing in hiragana?

  3. The Dad says:

Since you don’t answer my email … I thought referring to yourself as xxxsan or xxxchan was a no-no.

I say – わたしは ヘンゲン です not わたしはヘンゲンさん です right?
So how do I say I’m よしただ ‘s grandpa? よしただの おじい です ?

  4. Tiffani says:

    what email?

“ojiisan” is a word that cannot be broken up, so
わたし は よしただ の おじいさん です is perfect japanese

“oji” (notice only 1 i, though the pronunciation is nearly indistinguishable to がいじん ears) is the word for uncle, or older male

    • The Dad says:

I know … I think, unless you are saying ojii can’t be used as a word by itself. If so, I didn’t know that.

But this is my question … I call my self ojiichan? I thought that was incorrect.
You call yourself Suzuki, not Suzukisan, right?
